Goals

To educate the members, other professionals and the public about important public health issues, including the determinants of health
OBJECTIVE A: To make information available about these issues
OBJECTIVE B: To develop skills in health literacy and health education techniques for different audiences
OBJECTIVE C: To establish feedback mechanisms for analysis and utilize findings to strengthen future educational programs and efforts

 

Activities:

 

  • Implement a dissemination plan (developed under Goal 3) utilizing a newsletter, website, annual conference, listserve and continuing education sessions
  • Initiate special projects with educational components
To strengthen member capability to be better providers, consumers and advocates of public heath services
OBJECTIVE A: To assess membership’s needs and potential contributions
OBJECTIVE B: To promote mentoring and establish a mentoring program
OBJECTIVE C: To incorporate collaboration strategies and skills in grassroots organizing into member offerings

Activities:

  • Survey members
  • Identify members to serve as mentors, orient them and match them
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase regional and grassroots representation within the organization
To increase public support for priority public health concerns of the region
OBJECTIVE A: To ensure that MWPHA provides leadership to develop and support needed policies and programs
OBJECTIVE B: To develop an action agenda and a dissemination plan

Activities:

  • Identify priority issues of concern; create short, documented background papers from which to derive policy statements; participate in coalitions; participate in legislative hearings in the member jurisdictions, build community-based networks
To develop and maintain a workable organizational structure, process and procedures that can support the association’s members and their local and regional public health efforts
OBJECTIVE A: To ensure that the association is financially sound
OBJECTIVE B: To strengthen and support committee/task force work
OBJECTIVE C: To improve the organization’s decision making process

Activities:

  • Implement strategies to increase membership, ensuring geographic representation of the region; seek a capacity building grant to conduct an organizational needs assessment (SWOT analysis) and/or develop milestones for the evolution of the organization’s infrastructure; develop a fundraising plan; develop an investment plan; design and implement a leadership development strategy
